A Million Little Things
I wholeheartedly agree with the notion: romance is about the little things—not the grandeur. It’s about the little, that takes up the big (space), daily.
I put my marriage in that category.
Or should I say, I put my husband in that category. We’re two very type-A personalities that clash endlessly, but the man has the small things down. It’s the always walking on the street-side of a sidewalk to protect, it’s the opening my car door first, it’s the giving of the best seat, or best treat, or best anything-first. It’s a thousand things like that, which make up the million little things in our daily lives. We aren’t without feuding—no relationship is—but the stacking up of those, makes up for the occasional breakdown of the others.
I put God in that category.
It’s the thousand little things, daily, that God does without our notice.
It's the protecting, and the blessing, and the comforting, and the lifting, and the…endless. It’s the stacking up of the million, against the hoping of the occasional.
I think we as followers, and seekers, should perhaps look at our Creator in the little sense, as opposed to the big sense. Not out of context of a big God, but in the knowing of His small ways. We so desperately seek big miracles, that we lose sight of the little ones. And the little ones? Well, they're the constant ones all around us. They are the less-than-noteworthy happenings in our lives. And they are the mercies and grace from a Savior, that none of us deserve.
That is the grandeur of our God. He loves us so incredibly much, that He will do the small things, to fill up the big space, to give us the greatest gifts, to make the very most, of the smallest parts, of our momentous life. THAT is the miracle!
"the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." Lam 3:22-23
Seek the little things first, friends.
Seek the million little things of God first, and you will see the greatest, the most.
Because that is your God! That is our God! That is the One who gives abundant blessings in the ordinary, in the minute, in the common. He operates not in the grandioseness of our lives, but in the mundane of our daily. Seek that out! Search and find THAT God! Learn to know that God! And there is where you will find the One who cares about the small things, that make up the big things, in the million little things, of our lives.
Father, Almighty, help me to see the little. Focus my sights on the small things You do, and the small things You give. Help me to understand that those small things, are the big things! Open my eyes to Your endless mercies. Thank you Father!
